Salzburg- Austria.

Salzburg- the musical town in Austria derives its name from the River Salz which flows through the city. The town is the birth place of the genius Mozart and became more popular after the movie 'The sound of music' brought to light the actual story of the Von Trapp family.

A snapshot of old town against the Salz river around twilight.

Where we stayed? Star Inn, Salzburg

AAview: We will definitely recommend this place. It is in a nice quite corner and about 1 kilometer from the Altstadt  aka old city. There is a very cute bakery right across the hotel and you can grab a bite anytime of the day. The staff were very friendly and helpful. It was infact one of the A's birthday that trip and they arranged a wonderful delicious cake and filled the room with balloons as per the other A's request , perfectly :) The A's email confirmation reads they paid about 90 Euros per night.

How we got there? We took an OBB train from Zurich Hb which takes about 6 hours. The journey is spectacular cutting through the Alps and briefly halting at Innsbruck, Austria.

Things we did in Salzburg

  • A walk through the Old Town by foot
  • Visited the Mozart House
  • Enjoyed a horse carriage ride via the Palace of Residenzplatz and Altstadt.
  • The original 'Sound of Music' tour.
  • Palace of Mirabell.

What we missed?
We could have certainly gone up to the 10 century old Hohensalzburg castle.
